Time management Skill #ONE from Cirillo’s weekly Time Saving Tips Newsletter: Create a realistic task schedule! A daily to do task schedule is like a road map. Driving without one in unfamiliar places takes longer and loses time. You’d never think of driving from the east coast to the west coast without a map, right? So why would you start your day without one? A day without a task list schedule will become a day of losing time. You have a series of work and home projects but you don’t know which one to start on first. This is what your to-do list task schedule is for – it is your most important time management skill. It’s YOUR time. A task schedule begins with a blank sheet of paper. A sheet of paper is like an empty box. It has limited space. The number of items you can put into a box depends on the size and shape. If objects are organized properly, they will fit. A daily task schedule must be organized, but the key to making this successful is prioritizing, so your task items not only fit into your day but also run smoothly. An overloaded task schedule is an unrealistic task schedule that will create unnecessary stress, pressure and an unfulfilled day. Don’t overload your day! An overloaded to-do list will only lead to discouragement. And most of all: be sure to cross off items as you complete them. Research shows there’s a positive psychological effect that crossing items off will give you; plus it will help you gain momentum to move through the rest of your items and most of all, it will give you a sense of completion and reinforce the fact that you are taking control of your time. Remember, it’s never to late to hone those time management skills. More Time, Less Stress, Be happy.
